Introducing the Leaders of Team Lakeland for the 2016 Firefighter Combat Challenge Competition Season

As we look forward to another Firefighter Combat Challenge (FCC) season, our team at Lakeland Fire is proud to announce the leaders of Team Lakeland for the 2016 competition season.

We are excited to follow along with their training sessions and highlight the ups and downs of the FCC season with true competition veterans. We encourage you to follow along with us on our blog and by subscribing to our email list. In the coming weeks are looking forward to the launch of the Firefighter Elite Performance Guide: 2nd Edition and also a new Lakeland Fire website and online community.

Here is a look at Team Lakeland leaders for 2016:

Team: Lakeland Fire

Department: Mankato, Minnesota

Turnout Gear: Lakeland Stealth

Personal Record: 1:17.51

In his second year on Team Lakeland, Ryan Fitzgerald is looking forward to another competitive FCC season. Ryan competes for Team Lakeland and IAFF Local 579 out of Mankato, Minnesota.

Ryan had an impressive year of competition in 2015, consisting of 7 regional events earning him 3 gold and 4 silver medals on the year. At the 2015 FCC World Challenge XXIV, Ryan broke two world records during the four-day competition and ultimately took gold in the Tandem Competition with a time of 1:08.35. He finished the event with impressive accolades, including:

  • 1st place (gold) in the Tandem Competition
  • 2nd place (silver) in the Hybird Relay
  • 3rd place (bronze) in the Individual Category

Team: Lakeland Fire

Department: Frankfort, Kentucky

Turnout Gear: Lakeland Stealth

Personal Record: 1:38.88

Sean Sullivan, representing Team Lakeland and the Frankfort Fire & EMS, is excited to be a member of Team Lakeland again in 2016.

Sean had an impressive 2015 season, setting a personal best in the Over-40 Individual category and taking 2nd place (silver) in the Hybrid Relay. Moreover, his top finish during the FCC season earned him a prestigious recognition. Sean earned enough competition points to finish as the Runner-Up in the Over 40 Grand National Championship standings. This distinctive accomplishment is an accumulation of points for top finishes at events throughout the season.

Sean’s 2015 competition season consisted of 8 regional events with 8 individuals, 2 relays and multiple open and Over-40 tandems earning him 4 gold, 5 silver, and 4 bronze medals on the year.

At the 2015 FCC World Challenge XXIV, Sean had an impressive showing earning:

  • 2nd place (silver) in the Hybird Relay
  • 14th in the Over-40 Individual category with a new personal best time

 

Ryan and Sean are currently training for the upcoming FCC events and look forward to attending the Fire Department Instructor Conference & Exhibition (FDIC) in April to kick-off the competition season.
